Research Lines
AIM-Net brings together complementary expertise in advanced microscopy, artificial intelligence, and quantitative biology to create a unified view of biological processes across scales — from single molecules to entire tissues. The network’s activities are organized around six strategic objectives that guide its scientific, training, and outreach mission.

Temporal color map showing the movement of a cell. Each line in this picture corresponds to the position and morphology of the cell at a given time point.

Pancreatic cancer fibroblasts are seen here displaying their vimentin cytoskeleton and posing for a Leica SP8 setup. The cell in the middle is in the process of cell death, thus the increase in size.
1
Integration and Interpretation of Multiscale Imaging Data
— To develop and apply advanced AI methods that connect and interpret imaging data obtained at different spatial and temporal scales. AIM-Net seeks to bridge molecular, cellular, and tissue-level information to build a holistic understanding of biological organization and dynamics
2
Strengthening and Expanding Collaborations
— To consolidate existing partnerships and establish new ones among Spanish and international research groups. AIM-Net acts as a collaborative platform that maximizes synergies, shares resources, and promotes cross-disciplinary projects in AI-assisted bioimaging.
3
Training the Next Generation of Scientists
— To train young researchers in both experimental and computational aspects of microscopy and data analysis. The network will organize a Biennial Conference and Summer School, as well as mobility and exchange programs between member institutions.
4
Development and Dissemination of Open-Source Tools
— To design and share cutting-edge, open-source software and data resources for image analysis. AIM-Net promotes transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility in computational microscopy.
5
Increasing Visibility and Public Awareness
— To enhance the visibility of Spanish research in AI-based bioimaging and foster public engagement through outreach, educational events, and communication activities on digital platforms.
6
Becoming a National and International Reference
— To establish AIM-Net as a leading reference in multiscale imaging and AI-driven quantitative biology, building strong connections with European and global microscopy initiatives.
